Becoming Faithful in the Small Things

If we are faithful in the small things, God will trust us with the larger.

If you are faithful in the little things, you will be faithful in the large ones. But if you are dishonest in the little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities. (Luke 16:10)

We mustn’t miss today while focused on tomorrow.
This may seem counter-intuitive at first thought, but it is vital that we become faithful in the day-to-day, minute-by-minute, and the little-by-little things.

So don’t be anxious about tomorrow.  God will take care of your tomorrow too.  Live one day at a time. (Matthew 6:34)

Perhaps God is saying to stop living for tomorrow so much and start living more for today.

If you really think about it, our future is an illusion.  It is simply a concept in our head.  It can change or vanish in an instant.

You can make many plans, but the Lord’s purpose will prevail. (Proverbs 19:21)

Big things aren’t off in the distance, they’re the next thing that God has planned for us.
With our desire and search for the large, the next big thing, we miss the small. If we’re not faithful with what God has already given us, we shouldn’t expect more.

He expects us to be good managers of the time and gifts that He’s given us.

Now, a person who is put in charge as a manager must be faithful. (1 Corinthians 4:2)

Remember, it is a sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it. (James 4:17)

In our quest for the big things, we miss the things right in front of us.
There is no day more important than the day we’re living right now. We have opportunities every single day and it’s up to us to realize them.

The seed that fell among the thorns represents others who hear God’s word, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the worries of this life, the lure of wealth, and the desire for other things, so no fruit is produced. (Mark 4:18-19)

We have to stop worrying about being “big” until we learn how to be good at being “small”.  Being faithful now is how God trusts us with more.

So then, be very careful how you live.  Don’t live like foolish people but like wise people.  Make the most of your opportunities because these are evil days. (Ephesians 5:15-16)

It is vital that we plan our lives according to God’s will.  Our current and future plans and goals can end in an instant, but finding His will for our lives and aligning ourselves with it will lead to lifelong prosperity.

Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity. (Proverbs 21:5a)

How do we plan according to God’s will?  We have to start by building a relationship with Him.  Talk to God.  Ask Him for discernment in arranging your current and future plans.

Don’t abandon all plans for the future, but instead start planning according to God’s will for your life.
