Learning to Submit to God’s Will

THY-WILL-BE-DONE.

As Christian’s, our most basic instruction is to submit to God’s will.

We constantly fall short in this area everyday, but it’s vital that we continuously push ourselves to be more like Christ in our love for others and obedience to our heavenly father.

We must recognize that God is God and we are not.  It’s amazing how easily we forget that He is in control and we are not to be the rulers of our own lives.  The breakdown most often occurs when we’re too busy to hear from the Lord or put our own personal priorities ahead of His plan for our lives.  It is our job to both find God’s will for our lives and stay in it.

Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. (Ephesians 5:17)

We must stop second-guessing God.  We forget that He knows what’s best for us.  We question why God allows things to happen, and we miss the message hidden in the difficulties that we face.

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. (Jeremiah 29:11)

“God’s presence becomes a reality through our wounds” (Second Guessing God: Hanging on When You Can’t See His Plan, Brian Jones)

God is allowing us to learn on our own.

Submission to God unleashes His perfect will for our lives.  God is not going to do everything for us.  He gives us the tools we need to get through the tasks that we face.  When we are faced with trials that we think are too great, we must passionately trust God.  Trusting Him is not passive or conditional, we must trust God no matter the situation or circumstance.

Jesus prayed to God: “Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” (Luke 22:42)

It’s important that we are self-aware and realize where we are in the big picture of Christ’s will for our lives.

If you have a willing heart right now as you’re reading this, take the initiative to actively seek out your heavenly Father.  Ask Him right now to empower you to succeed in fully submitting yourself to His will and plan for your life.  We know that it’s no simple task but we have to start somewhere.  Believe that He will give you a breakthrough because you are asking Him with an open heart and in the name of Jesus.
